With Martyrs' Day rally on July 21 drawing close, Trinamool Congress has begun tightening its grip on internal discipline, especially in politically sensitive Birbhum. In a key meeting held in Kolkata on Friday, top state leaders including Subrata Bakshi and Arup Biswas issued a strong warning to Birbhum heavyweights Anuvrat Mandal and Kajal Sheikh.
Amid rising factional tensions, both leaders were summoned to the city. Sources revealed that Kajal Sheikh was taken straight to the party state president’s office by Firhad Hakim, while Anuvrat met separately at the party's Parbhawanipur office. The message from the leadership was unambiguous: any further display of personal ego or public confrontation would invite disciplinary action.
The party leadership is particularly concerned about recent flare-ups, including a physical clash between the two leaders and Anuvrat Mandal’s public threats to police officers. Subrata Bakshi reportedly reprimanded Anuvrat directly and warned him that abusive language or actions would not be tolerated.
With Mamata Banerjee scheduled to lead the July 21 rally, the party is aiming for a display of unity. Insiders say this meeting was a final chance for the Birbhum leaders to fall in line—or face the consequences.
